How the numbers work
Gas and hybrid cars: gallons per year = miles × (city share ÷ city mpg + highway share ÷ highway mpg), priced at the fuel the car uses (regular, premium or diesel). Default miles are the U.S. average per driver (about 13,500). Electric cars: kWh per year = miles × kWh per 100 miles ÷ 100. Each model uses its most efficient EPA-rated version; the model page lists every version.
Mileage is EPA estimates from fueleconomy.gov. Results vary with driving, weather and load. The numbers you enter stay in your browser.
